Underwater Inspection Services
Performing underwater inspections is a regular project for many commercial diving companies. Underwater inspections are necessary in order to evaluate the condition of submerged structures such as bridges, piers, pipelines, intakes and water storage facilities to determine if maintenance or underwater repairs may be necessary.
Midco Diving and Marine Services can be your first line of defense when it comes to ensuring the reliability and compliance of structures that are in contact with or completely submerged by water. Our professional divers are trained to perform underwater inspection, maintenance, and repair services on nearly all types of underwater structures including potable water storage systems.
At Midco Diving and Marine Services, Inc., we utilize our team of professional commercial divers as well as highly technical remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) to perform underwater inspections. Our inspections can often be performed without the need to halt operations or remove water from storage facilities eliminating downtime and reducing outside expenses as well.
While both of these inspection methods will provide a detailed assessment, every inspection is unique and the physical nature of each job will often dictate which method will be best given the circumstances.
Commercial diver inspections produce the most thorough and comprehensive reports. During a commercial diver inspection, the diver physically enters the area or contained space requiring inspection. In order to minimize risk and to ensure diver safety, proper project assessment and Job Hazard Analysis is completed along with the federally mandated “three-man dive crew”.
During a commercial diver inspection, the diver has the ability to maintain communication with the diver tenders, customer, or engineers on the surface allowing for clear instruction and an efficient inspection process. This type of inspection does involve a greater amount of preparation and work from the entire crew in order to complete the job, and in most cases commercial diver inspections are more costly and time consuming than ROV inspections.
Remote Operated Vehicles are an invaluable tool in the field of commercial diving. ROV technology helps mitigate the risk involved when conditions that are potentially unsafe for commercial divers are present. ROVs are available in wide range of sizes with a variety of features in order to best suit the job at hand. Small ROVs have the ability to inspect areas that may be too confined for a commercial diver to reach while large-scale ROVs can be used to efficiently cover ground in deep, open environments that exceed the depths deemed safe for a commercial diver.
The ROVs that we utilize at Midco Diving & Marine Services, Inc. are easy to deploy, can be operated by a single individual, and are capable of producing a high-resolution video “report” of the inspection. All of these features result in time saved during the preparation and inspection processes as well as eliminating the potential risks involved with using a commercial diver.Through underwater inspections, our professional team of commercial diving consultants can identify underwater hazards and threats including scour, cracking, corrosion, and sediment buildup. When you consult with Midco Diving and Marine Services, Inc. you can rest assured knowing that you will receive a thorough inspection followed by a comprehensive report with photo and/or video documentation, as well as a strategic plan if maintenance and repairs are needed.
